Xerox manages security throughout the product lifecycle, from design to development, manufacturing, deployment, and eventual disposal. Security functionality is fully integrated at the individual device level and extends seamlessly across the fleet. Advanced encryption is employed extensively to protect customer information, both at rest within devices and in motion to and from devices. Xerox's authentication and authorization features provide unmatched control over usage while remaining user-friendly. Special attention is given to machines returned after lease expiration or otherwise; disks in these devices are either destroyed or completely re-mastered to remove residual customer information before reuse.
Ensuring the security of systems and networks supported by Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) for clients is a top priority for Xerox. Security solutions are tailored to meet specific client needs, employing a robust suite of solutions and products such as application security, vulnerability management, access and identity management, encryption, and user provisioning. Security is integrated into client solutions from the start of an engagement and maintained throughout the lifecycle of the contract.
Xerox is dedicated to leading the industry in multifunction device and printer security. The company is committed to helping customers maintain secure network environments, particularly concerning the use of multifunction products (MFPs) that print, copy, fax, and scan. Since all MFPs, regardless of the manufacturer, contain hard drives and software, they require security precautions similar to those associated with other network peripherals. Xerox introduced the industry's first office MFP in 1995 and remains at the forefront of developing security features for these systems.
Xerox strongly endorses the internationally recognized ISO 15408 Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation and has validated more than 50 office MFPs to this standard. This gives Xerox one of the industry's most comprehensive portfolios of printers and copiers certified to meet customers' strictest security requirements. The company's policy and practice ensure that an entire multifunction system is evaluated, not just individual features or a security kit.
Although Xerox extensively tests for security vulnerabilities in its software before bringing a product to market, the company acknowledges that individuals with intent and the necessary expertise may occasionally find ways to bypass security protections. Xerox encourages reporting any network security concerns and promptly provides solutions, developing and posting software patches for vulnerabilities. The company also updates its manufacturing process swiftly to integrate these security fixes.
